Peschiera del Garda

Ho visitato Peschiera del Garda nel corso di una giornata sul Lago di Garda (qui il post sul viaggio).

I have visited Peschiera del Garda on a day trip to Garda Lake (here the post about the journey).

Peschiera è un grande centro all'angolo sudest del lago, quindi è il primo paese che si incontra venendo dalla città di Verona. Il centro storico si sviluppa sul punto in cui il fiume Mincio esce dal Lago di Garda, mentre l'espansione più recente si sviluppa lungo la costa a ovest e a nord e, in misura minore, nell'entroterra. Il fatto di essere uno dei punti di accesso al lago di Garda dal resto d'Italia e l'avere il raccordo autostradale così vicino al centro storico, fa sì che il paese sia interessato da un forte traffico automobilistico.

Peschiera is a large town on the south-east corner of the lake, so it is the first town you get to if you come from Verona. The historical center develops on the area where river Mincio exits the lake, the recent expansion develops on the east and north coast and, in a lesser measure, on the inland. Being one of the main access point to the lake front from the country and having the highway so close to downtown, the place is crowded by cars passing through.

Sembra che Peschiera del Garda non abbia svolto lavori di miglioramento sulla viabilità principale. La strada che la attraversa non vede nessun intervento di moderazione del traffico, i marciapiedi sono spesso stretti, non ci sono corsie ciclabili, la pavimentazione è asfalto e blocchetti di porfido, forse l'accoppiata più comune che si possa trovare. Peccato, perchè il paese offre alcuni sorci interessanti. Ma perfino il punto di informazione turistica è più accessibile alle auto che ai pedoni.

It looks like Peschiera del Garda had made no improvement on its road network. The main street had no traffic calming, sidewalks are narrow, there are no cycle paths and the paving is made by asphalt and setts, possibly the most common pair you can find. This is a shame, for the place offers some fine views. But even the tourist info point is more easily accessed by cars than pedestrians.

In compenso l'arredo urbano nell'area della vecchia darsena ha un'atmosfera quasi parigina...

But to compensate that the forniture of the old marina has almost a Paris touch...

Dalla vecchia darsena si può raggiungere il terrapieno che divide la Darsena dal fiume Mincio.

From the old marina you can get to the rampart that separates the marina and Mincio river.

La strada che porta al lungo lago non è molto sicura né per le bici né per i pedoni: molto traffico, veicoli veloci, marciapiedi ridotti, nessuna infrastruttura ciclabile. In generale lo spazio stradale risulta informe, con spazi non ben delineati che vengono utilizzati a volte come parcheggi a volte rimangono vuoti. Il lungolago in sé è gradevole, con diversi stabilimenti e strutture ricreative.

The street that brings you to the lake front is not very safe, nor for pedestrians nor for bikes: lots of vehicles, narrow sidewalks, no bike infrastructure. In general the space along the street is unshaped, with undefined areas sometimes used as parking lots, sometimes left empty. But the lake front is pleasant, with different facilities.

Per raggiungere la stazione dal lungolago è necessario tornare sulla strada principale, trovare il modo di superare una rotonda priva di corsia ciclabile, trovare, nascosta tra parcheggi regolari e abusivi, una stretta strada senza uscita che porta a uno spiazzo su cui si affaccia la stazione: in questo spiazzo informe e non disegnato convivono una fermata d'autobus e alcuni stalli di sosta per taxi; i marciapiedi della strada di accesso si perdono nel piazzale senza portare il pedone fino alla stazione. Lo spazio era talmente poco definito che risultava difficile perfino fotografarlo, sembrava sfuggire all'occhio. 

To reach the railway station from the lake front you have to get back to the main road, find a way to cross a roundabout with no bike infrastructure, find a narrow no through road, hidden among regular and unauthorized parking lots, that will lead you to a space where the station stands: in this undefined and not designed space a bus stop and some taxi lots stand together; the sidewalks from the entering alley loose their ways in the 'square' without leading the passerby to the station. This space was so poorly designed that was impossible to put it on photo, it seems to keep slipping from the eye.
