I have visited Peschiera del Garda on a day trip to Garda Lake (here the post about the journey).
Santa Maria di Lugana is a village on the road linking Sirmione and Peschiera del Garda, it develops on this linking road, it has no historical center, it seems mainly a sprawl. The main road has been rearranged by traffic calming tecniques.
Paving is very good, with pedestrian crossing of mosaic. It is a shame that they needed the yellow line to mark the parking stall...

Furniture has a clean line, nicer than practical: benches have no backrest, there is no way to secure the bike frame to the bike rack and to secure the wheel you have to kneel, an unpleasant position.

Moving eastward, from Lugana you get to Taffella, there is a nice park between the lake and the sprawl. Here I have found another drinking fountain. Benches have a vaguely decò-looking shape that I really like.

I have visited Peschiera del Garda on a day trip to Garda Lake (here the post about the journey).
Peschiera is a large town on the south-east corner of the lake, so it is the first town you get to if you come from Verona. The historical center develops on the area where river Mincio exits the lake, the recent expansion develops on the east and north coast and, in a lesser measure, on the inland. Being one of the main access point to the lake front from the country and having the highway so close to downtown, the place is crowded by cars passing through.
It looks like Peschiera del Garda had made no improvement on its road network. The main street had no traffic calming, sidewalks are narrow, there are no cycle paths and the paving is made by asphalt and setts, possibly the most common pair you can find. This is a shame, for the place offers some fine views. But even the tourist info point is more easily accessed by cars than pedestrians.

But to compensate that the forniture of the old marina has almost a Paris touch...

From the old marina you can get to the rampart that separates the marina and Mincio river.

The street that brings you to the lake front is not very safe, nor for pedestrians nor for bikes: lots of vehicles, narrow sidewalks, no bike infrastructure. In general the space along the street is unshaped, with undefined areas sometimes used as parking lots, sometimes left empty. But the lake front is pleasant, with different facilities.

Lungolago / Lake front

To reach the railway station from the lake front you have to get back to the main road, find a way to cross a roundabout with no bike infrastructure, find a narrow no through road, hidden among regular and unauthorized parking lots, that will lead you to a space where the station stands: in this undefined and not designed space a bus stop and some taxi lots stand together; the sidewalks from the entering alley loose their ways in the 'square' without leading the passerby to the station. This space was so poorly designed that was impossible to put it on photo, it seems to keep slipping from the eye.

Sirmione

I have visited Sirmione on a day trip to Garda Lake (here the post about the journey).
Sirmione is the most renowned center, at least on the southern side of the lake. The historical center stands on a peninsula, while the most recent part, called Colombare, develops on the coast line.
Io, perlomeno, ho avuto qualche difficoltà a gestire bici e macchina fotografica.
The entrance to Sirmione from the through road is marked by a roundabout with a fountain, water features are in the plaza aside, with nice greenery of wild flowers, benches and a funny cycle rack shaped like keys. The scenery makes clear to drivers that they are entering the urban realm; maybe the design is slightly too much and might distract the tourist. At least, I had some problems dealing with bike and photos.

The lake front in the more recent part of Sirmione is in part a public garden. The benches are a bit heavy looking but nice. The pavings are  maybe a bit mundane but good looking.

Panchina / Bench
Once you crossed the most recent part of the town, you get to the lake front. The street is quite mundane, with a carriageway of asphalt to give access to rows of  angle parking lots separated by flower bed and trees. There is no cycle lane: it is not a real issue, as cars move slowly looking for a free parking lot, but it is not pleasant to ride between a row of potentially opening-with-no-warning doors and a car that might change direction abruptly to get in a parking spot. The sidewalk is a bit mundane, too, with rhododendron and benches, but it works after all: it is so Fifties!

Lungo lago / Lake front
The area between the new and the old part of Sirmione serves as a tourist hub. Beside the parking there is the tourist info point, the parking places for tourist pullman and a police point. The place is not so well designed, to move from a service to another you have to cross the carriageway each and every time. But the view of Scaliger Castle is quite priceless.

Castello Scaligero / Scaliger Castle
Sirmione is much more famous among tourists than Desenzano, you can immediately spot the amount of tourists crowding the narrow streets of downtown. The number of pedestrians asks for a ban on bikes, unless you buy a permission. So my trusty steed had some rest on a stall, behind the tourist info point, while I went getting lost in the village. Yes, also in Sirmione there is a lack of street signage.

Sirmione
I was taken by a detail in the paving: a strip, possibly a ribbon sunk in the ground, made by a corten-looking metal .
Corten e pietra / Corten and stone
Corten e ciottoli / Corten and cobbles
The lake front is a narrow path between water and hill overlooking the lake. On the hill are many facilities and hotels, so it is private. On the northern end there is an archaeological museum that I could not visit, due to lack of time. During low tides it is possible to get to the very end of the peninsula of Sirmione.

e, ovviamente, illuminazione.
The stroll is very pleasant, made by 'man made' and 'natural' parts, it runs to the very end of the peninsula, where it disappears among rocks and water. The furniture is comfortable, with benches and platforms that serve as benches and deckchairs, bins and lighting poles.

Desenzano

I have visited Desenzano on a day trip to Garda Lake (here the post about the journey).
I got to Desenzano by train, with my trusty little bike.
Off the station, going to the lake, I found out I underestimated the way finding issues. I got a simple string-like map, drawn on a block notes, to not rely on smartphone and its battery. On my map I only had the streets names, as I thought it would be enough to find my way. I found out that on crossroads only minor streets were named by signs, while the main streets had no signs on.
The small street in front of you is via Sauro, but the main street...
Anyway, it was not so difficult to get to the small harbour on the lake, where stands the main part of the village. The harbour has a peculiar venetian mood, because of the shape of arch on windows, because of plasters' colours and maybe because of the peculiar shape of chimneys.

The rest of the place is as pitoresque and pleasant.

Colori perfetti / Perfect colors
Streets are as interesting as houses, well designed and with nice pavings.
As many small villages, Desenzano develops on a main street that links it to other villages, such street cannot be closed to through traffic, but vehicles must be slowed down to avoid conflicts with pedestrians (and cyclists). The street is designed as a shared space, different pavings define areas for different users; a cobblestone strip works as a rumble strip, helping car drivers to keep their place. It looks much better than common rumble strip.

Desenzano streetscape
Secondary streets are well designed as well, maybe cobblestone, used for pedestrian space, is not the handiest solution...
Viottolo a Desenzano / Alley in Desenzano
And you should not underestimate the importance of drinking fountain for a thirsty cyclist. The design is rather more modern (modernist?) than the rest of forniture, most of all the lighting pole.

At village's exit (or entrance), traffic is slowed down by a roundabout, whose bend forces vehicles to slow down, the change from asphalt to stone marks the gate between a through road dedicated to traffic and a local street devoted to strolling and socialization.
